Zambezi Valley Development Agency Makes $100 Million Available to SMEs

The Zambezi Valley Development Agency (AdZ) has a financing portfolio of around US$100 million available to support Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Financing for the private sector was revealed this Tuesday (27), in Maputo, and aims to guarantee technical assistance to SMEs and prevent them from having difficulties with suppliers of parts and equipment, as well as financing actions to modernize their production capacity.

“Currently, our financing portfolio is around 100 million dollars for SMEs alone, of which 35% are the Zambezi Agency's own funds”, said the general director of AdZ, Roberto Albino, quoted by Mozambique Information Agency (AIM).

Roberto Albino explained that “if everything goes as planned, around 25 new factories will be established over the next 18 months in various agro-industrial areas, within the scope of in-kind financing, called AGRIVAl”.

The person in charge made it known that, in the last five years, AdZ mobilized resources which, in turn, allowed 31 SMEs in the industrial area to be financed.

The source said that in less than a month the third generation of the catalytic fund will be launched, budgeted at around 18 million dollars.

“Our idea, with this financing mechanism through the catalytic fund, is to ensure that companies receive money through a public tender, in which the private sector is involved, with the investment committee ultimately deciding which it is the SME that will be financed”, concluded the source.
