Two 35-year-old individuals of Pakistani nationality are currently detained at the Criminal Investigation Service Directorate (SERNIC) in the city of Maputo, accused of drug trafficking.
SERNIC spokesperson in Maputo, Hilário Lole, released this information, explaining that after an intelligence operation, the suspects were found in possession of 250 grams of caustic soda, a substance used in the production of psychoactive drugs, such as cocaine, methacolone and heroin.
Speaking to Jornal Noticias, Lole emphasized that, after evaluating the product carried out in the laboratory, it was confirmed that it was sodium hydroxide, a substance used in the production of various types of narcotics.
In addition, authorities seized a sum of money equivalent to approximately one million national currency. This amount included 5750 dollars, 750 rands, 100 euros and 473 thousand meticais, all with strong indications of having been obtained through drug trafficking.
Drug trafficking is a serious crime in Mozambique, and authorities are committed to actively combating the trafficking and consumption of illicit substances. The arrest of these two individuals and the seizure of the substance and money are an example of the authorities' ongoing efforts to address drug trafficking in the country.
