Today, around the world, we celebrate World Rabies Day under the motto “All Against Rabies, for One Health”. This day is of utmost importance as it aims to raise awareness about rabies, a viral disease that continues to be a threat to public health in many parts of the world, including our country.
The city of Maputo, in particular, joins this cause with special ceremonies that will take place in Bairro 25 de Junho, at Escola Secundária Zedequias Manganhela. The event will be led by the Secretary of State, Vicente Joaquim, demonstrating the local government's commitment to combating this debilitating disease.
Rabies is a viral infection that affects mammals, including humans. It is usually transmitted through the bite or scratch of an infected animal, with dogs being responsible for many cases of rabies around the world. Once symptoms manifest, rabies is almost always fatal, making it imperative to take strict measures to prevent its spread.
The ceremonies held today aim to educate local communities about the importance of vaccinating pets, properly treating wounds caused by animal bites, and the importance of seeking immediate medical attention in the event of exposure to rabies. Furthermore, they emphasize the need to maintain constant vigilance on rabies, working together to eradicate this terrible disease.
Rabies is a preventable disease, and vaccines are an effective tool to prevent its spread. Therefore, public awareness plays a crucial role in eradicating rabies. With the motto “All Against Rabies, For One Health”, we are all called to do our part in protecting our community against this threat.
This World Rabies Day, we join together in global solidarity to eliminate this disease, protect our loved ones and pets, and work together toward better health for all. It is a cause that deserves our continued support and constant efforts to eradicate rabies in our communities.
