Mozambique's economy recorded credit growth of 4,209 ME

According to data released today by the Bank of Mozambique and compiled by Lusa, credit granted by Mozambican banks to the economy has increased by 4% since the beginning of the year, reaching 288,235 million meticais (4,209 million euros) at the end of July.

After consulting the Bank of Mozambique's September statistical report, it was reported that credit to the economy amounted to 276,943 million meticais (equivalent to 4,044 million euros) at the end of last December.

At the end of July, credit granted to private companies increased by 2.5% since the beginning of the year, reaching 134,118 million meticais (1,958 million euros), according to the latest available data

According to the identical report, the Government's net credit has recorded a drop of 11.5% since the beginning of this year. It currently stands at 155,105 million meticais (equivalent to 2,265 million euros) in July.

According to the report, there has been a decrease of 1% in deposits held by Mozambican banks since the beginning of the year. In July, the total value of deposits was estimated at around 578,358 million meticais, which is equivalent to 8,445 million euros.

Data provided by the central bank indicates that in Mozambique there are a total of 15 commercial banks, 12 microbanks and other financial institutions, such as credit cooperatives and savings and credit organizations.
