The information was provided by the Governor of the Province of Inhambane, Daniel Chapo, on September 19th, in Mapinhane, Vilankulo district, on the field day that marked the beginning of the marketing of Reno Potatoes.
On the occasion, the Chief of the Provincial Executive made it known that the province expects to sell in the current 2023 campaign, 10,442.90 tons of Reno potatoes compared to 8,825.10 tons sold in the 2022 campaign, corresponding to a growth of 18.3%.
The official also said that the growth recorded was influenced by the focus on this culture, which is currently competing to become one of Inhambane's flagship crops.
At another point, the leader challenged those present at the event and producers in general to invest more and more in the cultivation of this crop so that Inhambane becomes a self-sustainable Province in the Production and marketing of reno potatoes.
It should be noted that the potatoes produced in Inhambane supply the local markets, the wholesale market in Zimpeto, Chimoio, Beira, Quelimane and Nacala.
