Last Wednesday, a young man was arrested and is currently in the cells of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in the Manga neighborhood, in the city of Sofala. He is suspected of involvement in the theft of electrical cables belonging to Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) in the Inhaconjo neighborhood.
The information was released by the PRM spokesperson in Sofala, Dércio Chacate, who explained that the young man's arrest was possible thanks to a complaint from the local community. The PRM acted promptly after receiving the information and carried out a search operation that resulted in the capture of the suspect and the recovery of part of the stolen material.
“We received a valuable tip from the community, and this allowed us to act quickly. During the operation, we found two individuals in possession of the stolen electrical cables, but one of them managed to escape,” said Chacate.
Police authorities are now committed to locating and detaining the second suspect who managed to escape. The stolen material was promptly returned to EDM, thus ensuring the continuity of electricity supply to the local community.
Furthermore, the PRM spokesperson commented on the political situation in the region. He stated that, to date, there has been no record of significant incidents related to the movement of political parties involved in the electoral campaign in Sofala. This occurs in the province's six municipalities, where authorities have maintained effective control over public safety.
