Morocco declares three days of national mourning

In response to the violent earthquake that hit Morocco on Friday night and resulted in the deaths of more than 1,000 people, the royal cabinet announced a three-day period of national mourning. Morocco will come together during this period to honor and remember those who lost their lives.

Following a meeting chaired by King Mohammed VI, called to assess the situation on the ground after the earthquake, a statement was released by the royal palace's official MAP news agency. The declaration declared a three-day period of national mourning with flags flown at half-mast on all public buildings.

On Friday night, a seismic event hit Morocco, resulting in more than a thousand deaths and 1,200 injuries. The Marrakesh region, which is a crucial destination for tourism in Morocco, suffered severe damage and destruction as a result of the earthquake.
