The minors, aged between 12 and 17, were allegedly being trafficked from the province of Inhambane, by an unknown individual who abandoned them at the Ressano Garcia crossing point.

The children were sent to the provincial Directorate of Gender for Children, Women and Social Action in Maputo, Children's Department and the case is now in the hands of the provincial Public Prosecutor's Office, to investigate the true origin of the children.

Meanwhile, the head of the Children's Department in Maputo, Hilário Vilanculos, indicated that this is the second case of children abandoned at the border this year, after another group of sixteen minors abandoned by alleged drug traffickers in the first half of the year.
