SERNIC dismantles second captivity of businessman Manoj's kidnappers

The National Criminal Investigation Service dismantled yet another residence used by the criminal group that kidnapped businessman Manuel Manoj, rescued on Monday in Maputo Province. At the residence, located in the Liberdade neighborhood, two vehicles used during the kidnapping were found.

After the captivity where the victim of the last kidnapping case was rescued in Maputo Province, the Criminal Investigation Service dismantled, this Wednesday, another residence where the victim would be taken in case of any embarrassment during the first captivity, according to the investigation.

However, the authority found that, in the type 2 house, one of the criminals shot in the rescue operation lived, who is now hospitalized.

In this second captivity, SERNIC found two vehicles used on the day of the kidnapping. These are a Toyota Sienta light vehicle and a Nissan Dualis, which, according to SERNIC, were discarded in this residence before the criminals took the victim to the Malhampsene prison, dismantled on Monday.

“Two vehicles were found at this location. They were escort vehicles for the vehicle where the victim was. A passport of one of the criminals hospitalized after being shot in the rescue operation was also found here,” said Henrique Mendes, Spokesperson for the Criminal Investigation Service in Maputo province.

It is a rented house that, according to neighboring residents, was not very busy, and nothing is known about the new tenants.

In fact, the block chief, who spoke to the country, said that with a high fence wall, and the gate always closed, it was impossible to see any resident. Regarding the fact that it was used as a captivity in the middle of residences, local authorities said it was a shock for the neighborhood, and that no strange movement was ever noticed.

According to SERNIC, the criminals asked for a ransom of 1 million and 500 thousand dollars and the payment was not made.

The fact is that the authorities have in their custody three citizens detained in the rescue operations, but the motive for the crime is still to be clarified, regarding the issue relating to the identity of the crime's mandate.
