Zambézia prohibits fishermen without life jackets from carrying out activities

Fisherman gathers seine nets from the water on the Ilha de Mafamede, Mozambique. Mafamede is one of the protected islands that comprise Primeiras and Segundas.

In Zambézia, the Maritime Administration issued a warning that from next year, fishermen who do not have life jackets will be prevented from carrying out their trade. This measure was implemented to avoid fatalities in the event of maritime accidents.

Augusto Dongo, maritime administrator in Zambézia, was the one who proposed the idea.

The province of Zambézia has more than 8,000 square kilometers of inland waterways, including rivers and lakes, as well as more than 8,600 kilometers of coastal waters.
