The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, officially accepted the invitation of the President of the Republic of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, for a future visit to the country, as announced by the Presidency.
In a statement published on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic, it was confirmed that Zelensky accepted the invitation to visit Portugal. However, due to Zelensky's trip to Granada to participate in the European Political Community Summit, which was decided at the last minute, the visit to Portugal will be very short and, therefore, the exact date is still being worked on by teams from both countries. .
The news about Zelensky's possible visit to Portugal on Friday, which had been reported by several Portuguese media outlets at the beginning of the week, was, however, discontinued.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa had invited the Ukrainian President to visit Portugal during a visit to Kiev in August. During this occasion, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa reaffirmed Portugal's support for Ukraine's independence, emphasizing the importance of the country's self-defense for peace and security in Europe.
